Our fishing trips out of Wrightsville and Carolina Beach have been doing awesome. We are still having a awesome time with the 30-100 lb sharks and have had many half days that caught sharks until they could physically not do it any longer! We are catching them on cut bait or dead bait trolled mid water column and are also sight casting to the schools of them that are feeding heavily on by-catch. We just increased our heavier spinning tackle to 60 lb Spider Wire Stealth braided line to handle these beasts! If you have never sight casted to sharks…now is the time! We will have sharks on a 10 wt fly rod very soon as well! This shark fishing definitely puts the fun back in fishing. There is nothing better that will peel of the drag like a big angry shark!

Inshore: We wore them out today on the flats in less than a foot of water. We tagged 2 over the slot reds and released quite a few in the upper slot. There were 3 schools with about 200 fish in each school that we chased around on the flat. The water was slick as glass and it allowed us to see every move the fish made. I love days like that! The redfish are biting anything that moves and we are mainly using Berkley Gulp! shrimp. The flats fishing is great right now and is only going to get better as the water cools off. The fish will be there waiting…all that’s missing is you!

Offshore: The kings are in their ususal summer pattern with 10 snake kings for every nice one. In my opinion 30 miles is too far to go for snake kings……. Its too far to go with not much reward. Try the inlets for the big kings. The Spanish have thinned out a bit and a bunch of small Spanish made a strong showing about a week ago. The big kings are in close. The flounder are stacking up on the near shore reefs and the gray trout should start to show up very soon. Its going to be a great fall!

Our charter fishing trips out of Carolina and Wrightsville Beach N.C. are doing great, and are producing a nice amount of fish. Sight cast to sharks or redfish its up to you!

Inshore: The redfish and flounder continue to be the top producers. We are catching everything on Berkley Gulp! I can’t remember the last time I threw my cast net for inshore bait! The redfish are feeding heavily and are very active due to the warm water temps. You almost have to put it right on their nose to get them to bite at times. They have no shortage of food this time of the year so you must make your bait stand of from the others to draw a strike. If the reds are feeding on mullet try a Gulp! Shrimp and if they are busting on shrimp (you will see the shrimp popping on the surface) throw a Gulp! Jerk bait or a Johnson gold spoon. This combination has been paying off nicely when matching the hatch and the bait they are chasing does not. The fish are everywhere right now…..flats, creeks, docks, river, ICW….everywhere. Get out there and catch a few!

Offshore: The shark action has been exceptional. We have had many sharks over 30lbs, lots in the 50lb range, and we had one go over 100lbs and was weighed in on certified scales. My customer stated he wanted a few shark steaks… well he got them! This is some of the best action one could ask for and it is rare to go 10 minutes without a bite. We are using 40-50lb stand up tackle with 80 lb spider wire and 135lb main wire to fight these fish. This is still light tackle!!!! Watch soon for sight casting to sharks on a fly rod. We will be doing this very soon! The Spanish have thinned out a bit but are still around. Try early morning for best results. The Kings are close by and I mean close! Try the inlets for best results and this is where you will also find the larger Kings. I refuse to run more then 10 miles out this time of year for snake kings. There are plenty in the 7 to 10 mile range and this cuts down on your ride time and maximizes your fishing time.

If you are ready to hunt some redfish or sight cast for some LARGE sharks give me a call. I will guarantee the sharks but getting them to the boat is your job!

The Carolina Beach inshore fishing and Wrightsville Beach shark fishing has been excellent this year. We have caught over 100 sharks easily this past week sight casting, trolling and on fly. Now is the time to take a shot at them on a fly rod! We went 3 for 3 on the fly rod the first day and 6 for 11 (strikes) on the fly the second day with numerous looks at the fly. I busted my 12 wt (shut it in the door) or we would have had even more. I will have the 12 wt back in a day or two from G Loomis. I also have another 12 wt in the works with a Tibor Pacific reel and two 10 wts with Tibor Riptide reels that will be ready for action very soon. We are taking the 8 wts tomorrow and hoping a monster does not come along! Cant wait!

Enjoy the pics, these are just the fly fishing pics.

We are catching everything on Berkley Gulp! They are not jumping in the boat, but if you work hard at it you should get a few.

Be very careful sight casting to these sharks. Last year they all seemed to run away from the nets when hooked up. This year it seems they are all running for them. The shrimper’s don’t like hooks in the nets. It can damage their gear or pinch the net reducing their catch or worse. Be careful and respectful when fishing behind the shrimp boats. The Amberjack fishing is still going strong. If you are ready to hunt some redfish or catch LARGE sharks give me a call. I will guarantee the sharks but getting them to the boat is your job!

WOW!!! is the only word to describe the fishing between this report and the last one. The last report was hard to beat and this report will do just that……with ease!

Offshore: The king mackerel, cobia and mahi are biting well on the live menhaden that seem to be everywhere! The amberjack bite has slowed a bit. This might be a good thing because I dont know how much more amberjack my reel drags could take!

Inshore: The redfish are biting well around the docks and these are upper and over slot fish. These fish are nailing the huge live menhaden and busting us off in the docks. My 20lb gear has been no match so far. Broken 40lb leaders and bent hooks have been the norm latley. I have up sized twice to yank them out, and after going 6-0 with no reds to the boat I am bringing my shark tackle tomorrow! The flounder bite is also good around the same docks and there are some big ones that like the same huge live menhaden! To eat a bait that size you gotta be big! Speaking of flounder……

Today was one of those trips that reminded me why I became a Captain. After being broken off in the docks by the redfish we heard the spanish bite was doing ok off the beach. So we picked up and ran out just to find it had slowed. My usual luck! After a fun but wasted ride out we came back to the redfish dock. We got broke off by another redfish. On the boat I had Nathan, his dad and I think his grandfather. I cant remember Nathan’s age but I think he was 12. I was waiting all morning for his rod to go off and with 20 minutes left in the trip boy did it! Drag was peeling but he got it away from the dock with just a tiny bit of help from dad. I am sitting there with the net waitng for a nice redfish to come up, but instead we were suprised by a 4.6lb flounder! Nathan and I slapped high fives and I put another monster menhaden on his hook and cast him back in the docks. Two minutes might have passed at the most and his rod is screaming again! Ok, NOW I’m ready to net Mr. Redfish…..and up comes another flounder and its BIGGER! 5.0 lbs and a NC citation! Thanks again guys! With back to back flounder like that you might want to grab a lottery ticket!

We are hooking up with 20-40 Amberjacks per trip. These fish weigh 25-45 lbs and are hitting flys, large popping plugs and live bait. This is all topwater action! You see everyfish. Not only are we seeing the fish before we catch them, we are seeing huge leather back turtles everywhere. Today we even had a estimated 300lb tiger shark beside the boat! And if it couldnt get any better along comes the Cobia. We went 1 for 4 today with 2 of them free gaffed. If you free gaff one have your fish box open and slam them in or else! Dont day I didnt warn ya!

It is like National Geographic out there right now!

If you want to get into this action give us a call! Call to reserve your date! The fish will be here!

The fishing is really heating up! Our Wrightsville Beach fishing and Carolina Beach fishing trips are doing well now that the wind has subsided. Let’s hope it stays that way!

Inshore: We have some nice redfish action going on right now. Try Gulp! or cut bait if you can’t find any live bait. (There is plenty of bait in the dredge pond.) The flounder bite is picking up a bit and there have been quite a few bluefish to play with near the inlets. These guys are a blast to sight cast to with a fly rod or light spinning gear. I expect the inshore fishing to EXPLODE when we get out first run of finger mullet.

Offshore: Right off the beach the Spanish Mackerel have been doing well. The wind has the Spanish bite messed up pretty bad but it is getting back to normal now. We have caught a lot of them sight casting, and trolling with Clark spoons. There are also a few Bonito still around but you better be quick on the cast! Further off shore there are LOT’s of spadefish at the Dredge Wreck along with some nice Spanish and small Kings. At the School house there are also some Kings with some Amberjacks mixed in. WR-4 is producing some nice Kings and Dolphin and the Kings have been a little larger at WR-4

Good luck, and I hope everyone has a safe and happy Memorial Day!

Hello everyone! The spring fishing has been on fire. The Wrightsville Beach Fishing Charters have been great and this has been a awesome season and it should only get better. Our amberjack fishing is right around the corner and we are ready to pull on these hard fighting fish. This is prime top water and fly fishing for 30 – 70 lb amberjacks that will put you and your gear to the test.

Inshore our flounder and red fishing has been great. They are biting artificals and pretty much anything that moves.

Offshore the blues are on fire, the spanish are moving in and should take over. The kings are still pretty far out but they should be close very soon as the water temp is rapidy rising.

Now is the time to book your summer trips!
